The Connection Between the Human and Soil Microbiomes

Fair Share Farm believes that if you want nutritious food, you must first start with healthy soil. For, since you are what you eat, you are also what your plants eat. This focus on the soil microbiome led Rebecca and Tom to build a vegetable fermentation kitchen on the farm in 2016.

Adding this live-culture operation to the farm has further built their awareness of the connection between the soil and human gut microbiomes. Mr. Ruggieri will discuss this connection, and the 20-year farming and fermenting journey that has opened up a deeper understanding of this fundamental bond between us and the soil.

Tom Ruggieri and Rebecca Graff co-own Fair Share Farm, a diversified vegetable operation and fermentation kitchen in northeast Clay County, MO. The farm is in its 20th year and focuses on building life in the soil, increasing biodiversity, reversing climate change, and producing nutritious food. Prior to farming Mr. Ruggieri worked as an environmental engineer for 20 years.

Registrants will be sent a Zoom link.
