How to Read a Book Review

I picked this up because it’s about a book store and a book club (two of my favorite things!) There is a lot more story, but basically, three people run into each other at the local bookstore, and what a connection they have: one of them, Harriet, is a retired English teacher currently volunteering at the prison, one of them is a recently paroled young person, Violet, from that same prison and the other is a retired man, Frank, whose wife was accidentally killed by the recently paroled young person. All three of them are facing life-changing events and they end up changing each other’s lives. This is an honest, warm, hopeful story that somehow makes you root for all three of these very human characters. It has a little bit of romance, a lot of humor, and a strong element of pathos. I would recommend it to those who enjoyed The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams, The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick, and A Man Called Ove by Fredrick Bachman.
