Program Description

Event Details

The Tolkien Society of Kansas City will visit the South Branch Library to inform us about the iconic author who brought us The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit in honor of Tolkien Reading Day. Our presenter, Elizabeth, is current President of the Tolkien Society of Kansas City, which is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote charity and literacy through Tolkien!

First started in 2003 by the Tolkien Society of the UK, Tolkien Reading Day is held on the 25th of March each year to encourage fans to celebrate and promote the life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien by reading favourite passages.

Why March 25th?

The 25th of March is the date of the downfall of the Lord of the Rings (Sauron) and the fall of Barad-dûr.
