Spanish is the Language of My Family Storytime/Los Cuentos de mi Familia son en Idioma Español.

Join us for a storytime presented by Young Ambassadors of the Smithsonian Institute National Museum of the American Latino featuring the book Spanish is the Language of My Family by Michael Genhart. 

Unete a nosotros para la Presentación del cuento El Español es el Idioma de mi Familia de Michael Genhart. Dirigido por la  Joven Embajadora del Museo Nacional del Latino Americano del Instituto Smithsonian.

An intergenerational story of family ties, cultural pride, and spelling bee victory following a young boy who bonds with his beloved abuela over a love of Spanish. As a boy prepares for his school’s Spanish spelling bee, he asks his grandmother for help with some of the words he doesn’t know how to spell yet. When she studies with him, she tells him how different things were back when she was a girl, when she was only allowed to speak English in school. This only inspires him to study even harder and make his family proud.

Una historia integracional de lazos familiares ,orgullo cultural, y victoria en el concurso de ortografía en donde un pequeño se une a su amada abuela por amor al Español. Mientras el niño se prepara en su escuela para el concurso de ortografía en Español, pide ayuda a su abuela con algunas palabras que aún no sabe deletrear. Cuando ella estudia con el , le explica como eran las cosas diferente de cuando ella era niña, cuando a ella solo se le permitían hablar Inglés en la escuela. Esto solo le inspira a el  aún más para preparse mejor y hacer sentir a su familia orgullosa.

Based on stories author Michael Genhart heard from his mother as a child, Spanish is the Language of My Family is about the joy of sharing cultural heritage with our families, inspired by the generations of Latino people who were punished for speaking Spanish and the many ways new generations are rejuvenating the language. 

Basado en historias que el autor Michael Genhart escuchó de su madre cuando el era niño, el Español es el Idioma de Mi Familia trata sobre la alegría de compartir la herencia cultural con nuestras familias, inspirado en las generaciones de Latinos que fueron castigados por hablar Español y por las muchas maneras de que las nuevas generaciones estan rejuveneciendo el idioma.
