Event Details
The National Day of Reading, organized by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), is an annual event dedicated to celebrating the power of literature to educate and inspire change, with a focus on advancing the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals. The event emphasizes the importance of fostering empathy, understanding, and equality through reading diverse and inclusive books.
Join us at the West Wyandotte Library for a story hour and pronoun workshop with our guest Our Spot KC reading the book My Maddy by Gayle E. Pitman.
Book Description:
My Maddy has hazel eyes which are not brown or green. And my Maddy likes sporks because they are not quite a spoon or a fork. Most mommies are girls. Most daddies are boys. But lots of parents are neither a boy nor a girl, My Maddy shows how some of the best things in the world are not one thing or the other. They are something in between and entirely their own.
Join us in collaboration with Our Spot KC as we work together deepen understanding, raise awareness of human rights issues, and build community through the shared experience of reading. It is an open invitation for everyone to participate in promoting inclusivity, kindness, and the dignity of every person, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
