Artists Biography:

I was born November 16, 1966 in Kansas City, Missouri.  My father was a school bus driver and a portrait artist who drew and painted for 62 years without ever having a single exhibition.  At the age of 7, he sat me next to him and had me draw faces and figures from pictures and real life (family members).  He moved our family to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1981.  In 1984, a charcoal drawing of an elderly man won me the Clark County School District Juried Art Competition.  The same year I was a track and field State Champion as an 11th grader (Bonanza H.S.), which later paid for college.  I competed in NCAA Division I Track and Field and studied art at the University of Nevada-Reno.  In 1986, I won the University of Nevada’s juried Craig Sheppard Memorial Art Competition.  From 1987-1993, I had numerous group & individual art shows.  I graduated from University of Nevada in 1992 with a B.A. in Art, Minor in Journalism.  In 1993, I stopped showing, but never stopped doing art, entering UNR’s graduate school in Educational Psychology.  Completing a year there, I returned to my birth home- Kansas City.  I applied to UMKC’s graduate school to study Special Education.  I received my M.A. in 2000.  I am in my 18th consecutive year of teaching with a strong desire to meet and view the art of every young & old artist in KC- possibly even showing my own art again.  I have no real philosophy of art.  Every human is an artist. I am, however, a passionate reader of world & U. S. history.  Hence, most of my paintings & sculptures attempt to capture extraordinary historical people in highly-active brushstrokes.
