Do you love learning random facts and diving into books about niche topics? Are you fascinated by stories about human nature and why our world works the way that it does? Then Continuing Ed: A Nonfiction Book Club may be for you! Each month, the group will discuss a riveting nonfiction book – from biographies and memoirs to scientific and historical exposés. Join us the first Sunday of every month from 2-3 PM via Zoom.
On Sunday, June 2nd, the group will be discussing The Unclaimed: Abandonment and Hope in the City of Angels by Pamela Prickett. Please register to receive a Zoom link.
"The Unclaimed" is a poignant exploration of the increasing number of Americans who die without anyone to claim their bodies. Authors Pamela Prickett and Stefan Timmermans explore the reasons behind this phenomenon and its societal implications, from fractured families to rising inequality. Through narratives of individuals in Los Angeles, the book highlights both the challenges and moments of compassion in dealing with unclaimed bodies. It ultimately calls on readers to reconsider their capacity for empathy in both life and death.
