Event Details

A digital exhibit of the art of Aaron Douglas and other important Harlem Renaissance artists will be on display in the Main Library care area through February.

Aaron Douglas (May 26, 1899 – February 3, 1979) was an African-American painter, illustrator and visual arts educator. He was born in Topeka, KS, and lived there until graduating from high school.  He moved to Harlem in 1925 and began developing his art and style. He was a major figure in the Harlem Renaissance and his works influenced others for years after.  He also helped set the stage for other African-American artists to enter the public realm through his involvement with the Harlem Artists Guild.
