Evin Felix's artwork will be on display at Mr. & Mrs. F. L. Schlagle Library through the end of April.
In a time when we are bombarded with images of ugliness, violence, and destruction, her goal as an artist is to depict the natural, understated beauty that still exists in our world. Many of her paintings are renderings of photos that she has taken at home and abroad. Whether it's a boat resting calmly on a glassy sea or a quiet expansive landscape, Evin strives to artfully depict feelings of peace and beauty in her work. In this botanical series, Evin explores the energy and movement that exists within something as simple as a succulent or flower. She uses different techniques of paint application, including splattering, dripping, and building up thick layers of paint to obtain the finished floral. The overall imagery closely mimics life, but upon more careful inspection and observation, the details within the art are much more abstract. These paintings are intended to draw the viewer in for a deeper examination and experience and challenge them to look deeper than the surface level.
