For the month of December, we will be showing movies directed by Michel Gondry. Gondry got his start making imaginative music videos for the likes of Bjork, The Chemical Brothers, and The White Stripes before trying his hand at feature films in the early 2000s. These films blend comedy, lo-fi sci-fi, and romance with Gondry's signature surreal visuals to create some of the most original movies of the new millennium.
On this night, we are watching his 2008 film "Be Kind, Rewind" starring Jack Black and the artist formerly known as Mos Def. It is rated PG-13.
Two bumbling store clerks inadvertently erase the footage from all of the tapes in their video rental store. In order to keep the business running, they re-shoot every film in the store with their own camera, with a budget of zero dollars.
