Your Family Tree

Materials

  • Green construction paper
  • 3-4 black or brown pipe cleaners
  • Jar or cup
  • Sand
  • Scissors
  • Holepunch
  • Pens or markers
  • Yarn

Instructions

  1. Twist the pipe cleaners around each other, making one large branch.
  2. Pour the sand into the jar and "plant" your branch in the sand so that it is standing upright like a small tree.
  3. Cut leaf shapes out of green construction paper.  Each leaf represents someone in your family, so cut enough leaves for your parents, granparents, sisters, brothers ... whoever you want to put on your family tree!
  4. Write a name on each leaf, and write down how that person is related to you on the back (so you can write "Grandma" on the back of your grandmother's leaf).
  5. Punch a hole in each leaf and tie it to the tree.  You may want to put grandparents toward the bottom and work your way up to you and your brothers and sisters at the top.
